Our Mission Statement:
The United Orthodox Synagogues Sisterhood is a women’s organization committed to Torah values within modern society, dedicated to enriching the lives of our members, supporting and inspiring our synagogue and the broader Jewish community. We promote fellowship, ongoing spiritual growth, celebration of meaningful Jewish events, chesed and continued skilled leadership.

Over the years, led by two Co-Presidents and dedicated Board members, UOS Sisterhood provided major financial support for the UOS kitchens and equipment, landscaping, sprinkler systems and tree lighting, mikveh repair and enhancement, furniture and décor of the Freedman Hall lobby, and the scholar in residence program. In addition, UOS Sisterhood holds women’s events and classes for spiritual enrichment and torah learning. The Board of Officers and event coordinators meet quarterly for planning our events and making decisions regarding dispersal of funds.

Our four major annual events for 2007-08 are:
1. Membership kickoff event: Sept 9
2. Chanukah event: Sunday, Dec 2
3. Sisterhood Shabbat: honoring Eishet Chayil of the year; Friday, Saturday Feb.29 - March 1, 2008
4. Donor event: Sunday, May 18

Recently we revived the Minhag of Rosh Chodesh, a significant festival day in ancient times.
Rosh Chodesh symbolizes renewal, the ability of the Jewish people to rise from oblivion and restore themselves to their past greatness. In modern Judaism Rosh Chodesh has become a women's festival where women gather and celebrate the New Moon in a wide variety of activities.

Tentative dates for our monthly Rosh Chodesh programs, to be held in Sisterhood member’s homes:
•  Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan: 10/21
•  Rosh Chodesh Kislev: 11/11
•  Rosh Chodesh Tevet: 12/2 (combined with our Chanukah program)
•  Rosh Chodesh Shvat: 1/6/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Adar Aleph: 2/3/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Adar Bet: 3/9/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Nisan: 4/6/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Iyar: 5/4/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Sivan 6/1/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Tamuz: 6/29/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Av: 7/27/08
•  Rosh Chodesh Elul: 8/31/08

Another monthly activity is our Book Club, where we meet and share opinions regarding the book chosen.

Membership dues are $25 per year, or $250 for a life membership. First year membership is free!

We extend a warm welcome to Jewish women from UOS as well as the broader Jewish community, who consider UOS Sisterhood as their spiritual community. Please join us!
